Invention 5 in Eb major

This week’s video features Bach’s Invention 5 in Eb major,  BWV 776. The main theme in this piece is clear, with a strong counterpoint in the opposing part. In the first four Inventions, Bach utilized sixteenth notes for a quicker feel to the main theme. In this piece, however, he changes things by using eighth notes and quarter notes in the primary voice, leaving the faster notes to the supporting voice. This lends a more dominant, stately feel to the piece.
