Today’s video wraps up a week of Thanksgiving and celebration with the hymn, “Let All Things Now Living.” Written in 1938 by Katherine K. Davis, the text calls for the thanksgiving and celebration of God’s creation and his guidance. Davis originally published the hymn under the pseudonym John Cowley. This was also the case for her popular Christmas song, “The Little Drummer Boy,” written in 1941. Davis wrote the hymn to the traditional Welsh melody, “The Ash Grove.”
Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving
To God the Creator triumphantly raise.
Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
Who still guides us onto the end of our days.
God’s banners are o’er us, His light goes before us,
A pillar of fire shining forth in the night.
Till shadows have vanished and darkness is banished,
As forward we travel from light into light.
His law he enforces, the stars in their courses
And sun in its orbit obediently shine;
The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
The deeps of the ocean proclaim him divine.
We, too, should be voicing our love and rejoicing;
With glad adoration a song let us raise
Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving:
“To God in the highest, Hosanna and praise!”
Thank you for listening!
“6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,(Psalms 33:6)
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.”
“11 “You are worthy, O Lord,(Revelation 4:11)
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
