Invention 11 in G minor

We continue this week with the next in a series of Inventions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Invention 11 in G minor BWV 782. There’s a lot going on this piece, from ornamentation to repeated themes and motifs and counterpoint between the two voices. One thing I struggled with was deciding at which tempo to play. If you listen to performances by András Schiff or Glenn Gould, two masters at performing Bach, you’ll hear a much brisker pace then what I’ve selected. At the other extreme are performances by Simone Dinnerstein and Tatiana Nikolayeva, both whom portray a much more contemplative mood.

Thank you for listening!
